Greece’s 2020 tourism season will begin on June 1, the day the country will begin welcoming back flights from abroad, it was announced on Wednesday 20 May 2020.
Addressing the public in a televised address to the nation, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the government’s plan to support the economy, employment, and tourism in the coming months amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Referring specifically to tourism, the PM said Greece’s 2020 season will begin on June 1, coinciding with the date the country’s year-round hotels will open their doors.
Greece will be welcoming international flights from June 15, initially only at Athens International Airport. From July 1, all Greek airports will be open to flights from abroad.
According to Mitsotakis, Greece’s visitors will undergo sample tests when required and must abide by the country’s general health protocols (to be announced soon), which however “will not cast a shadow over our bright sun or natural beauty”.
It was announced that Greece’s incoming tourists will not need to have a coronavirus test prior to travel nor will they be quarantined after arrival.

We can say with great relief and pride that the situation on Rhodes island is secure. Up to date, there were only 4 cases, no deaths, and no suspected cases of Covid-19. This favorable outcome is due to operative nationwide lockdown restrictions promptly imposed by the Greek government, which were especially crucial for the islands.
According to the Greek Reporter, Rhodes is one of the 8 Greek islands that are distinguished as possible destinations to visit after the coronavirus lockdown ends. News like this gives us all hope and strength to keep being patient and inspired to adapt to the new circumstances. We believe that Rhodes will promptly acclimate to the new conditions and take all the necessary measures to be able to accept travelers longing for a safe and relaxing holiday.
